The People's House - second largest construction in the world

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Romanian People's House, currently the Romanian Parliament House is the world's largest civilian administrative building, most expensive administrative building, and heaviest building in the world.

It was build during the dictature of the infamous communist leader Nicolae Ceausescu, who intended to make the building his personal residence.

According to Wikipedia the Palace measures 270 m (890 ft) by 240 m (790 ft), 86 m (282 ft) high, and 92 m (302 ft) under ground. It has 1,100 rooms, 2 underground parking garages and is 12 stories tall, with four underground levels currently available for the general public and in use, and another four in different stages of completion.

Legend has it that the Palace has a secret network of underground tunnels. Also the rapid construction of the Palace claimed many lives. Some of the persons involved in the construction project say that there were workers that were actually killed and than walled in the concrete structure because they seem to interfere with the secrets around the building plans.

Also, for the building of the mega construction Ceasusescu demolished virtually 4 neighbourhoods. Many of the people that were left without homes committed suicide.

The People's Palace holds an infamous place in the collective consciousness as a symbol of the striking contrast between the opulent luxury of the building and the poverty within the communist country.
